Assessment Presentation

Today I had a very important assessment. I had to do a presentation of all my work I've done so far this year, so every assignment I did for the academy, and my own work. All of my own teachers came plus all the heads of all the departments, so important business!

I arrived at eight in the morning and finished building everything up at twelve or something, then it was time to wait. At three o'clock or so, all the teachers arrived at my 'spot'. I think the only one who was speaking was the head of fine arts, which was good. He asked me some random questions; where do I work, when do I make my art, what is my favorite painter, that kind of questions.

He also asked me if I made some things 'again', I asked him what he meant, he asked the same question and I said; not often. So he said that I should (are you still following?), that I should make the same work a couple of times. So I will. And that was it actually. Well, I saw my teacher whisper 'it looks good!' and that made me feel pretty confident.
Overall, I am really happy with my presentation and the reactions of the teachers. Just have to wait till I know my grade...

The last time assessment was just with our own teachers and only six of the thirty-four students got a G, there is
-O (Insufficient)
-T (Doubt)
-V (Sufficient)
-G (Good)

I got a G that time, so lets hope I've convinced the head of fine arts as well!

Jonathan Meese and my first Ballet experience

In GEM, a museum here in Den Haag, there is an exhibition of Jonathan Meese, a German fine/performance artist. So I went there with a classmate, I was very impressed by his work, it is really bold and expressive, huge and I sometimes laughed my ass off.

His paintings really inspired me. At school I have all these assignments that kind of block me, I would sit down and think of how to present a thought correctly, when this guy just creates. He made me want to create as well, and not do my assignments, just make whatever I want for myself.
Funny thing, I made my seven sins work before I went to this exhibition, but it is kind of in the same style sometimes.

Jonathan Meese believes that art will become the ruler of the world, because it is so much stronger than humans, and I like this thought. I like it how he says that everything can collaborate in art, that Adolf Hitler and Spongebob can have a dance in a piece of art, because no one is bad or good in art.
Here are some pictures I took at the exposition (took them with my phone, so it's really bad quality).

These portraits were made with very thick layers of oil paint, I almost couldn't restrain myself to touch it!

These following two were huge and in my opinion very inspirational, it just made me want to paint something as big as these.

The over all presentation was really impressive and I spent a couple of hours just drawing and looking around, watching his short films and just enjoying this exhibition.

When the museum closed I went to the Lucent Theatre of Dance and experienced my first Ballet performance, the 'Ballet Biarritz by Malandain',  it was incredible. I have always loved watching dancers, especially ballet dancers, I love the way they move with such smooth and flowing moves, can't stop looking at the beautiful bodies, so muscular!! This piece was only with music of Tchaikovsky, so there were a lot of pieces i recognized. All together it was just beautifull, the music, the people, the dance, everything. I had goose bumps almost the whole show. I can't wait to see another one!!

Seven Sins

Here is a work I made for an assignment from school. We had to do some research about the Seven deadly sins and make a diorama out of it. First I wanted to make a background and present it all with life models, like a performance, but then decided to do just the background, the models weren't necessary. So my work ended up not as a diorama, just a large collage-ish work.

Excuse me for the ugly photo, I had to make a panorama view picture, but it didn't really work out, haha.

Life Drawings

Yesterday we had a life modelling class and I'm really happy with my charcoal drawings!

The following sketches are from an evening of life drawing and drinking beers at 'Dr. Sketchy's anti-art School' (november 5th). It was great fun and my first time drawing life (partially) nudes.
I'm not happy with every sketch, but it was a good exercise, looking forward to doing that a lot more!

Hello everybody!

Hi there!

My name is Else and I'm an art student on the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, the Netherlands. I Just started the preparatory year and I want to study Fine Arts next year.
The reason I created this blog, is to share my sketches and other works.
First I will show some of my sketches (I don't have a scanner, so I just made pictures of my sketchbooks with a camera, sorry for the bad quality).

Trip to the Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam.

Portrait of another redhead.

Here I went to this theatreplay called Hondsdagen, it was really weird in my opinion; people running into walls, a man pretending to be a dog, real heavy dances and yelling. There was some great music, but over all just not my cup of tea I guess.

The seven sins, a school assignment, these are just some orientational ink drawings, expanding work will follow later.

Random

Here are two other plays I attended with school, the first was called 'Zoek het lekker zelf uit" (just the fiirst photo) and it was actually a young teenage-ish play, but it was alright. I'm really trying to capture just the form here, just practicing, and I think I'm getting better at it (especially when you see my drawings of a few months back, maybe I'll put them on as well).
The second one was called 'Onze paus by Arnon Grunberg', this was yet another weird play, but it was fun doodling around during. I tried this other way of drawing, the one you don't lift your pencil that much, and I gained some cool sketches out of it.

This is my other sketchbook, I draw in both of them, but started in this one. I purchased it in London, when I was there on a trip with my boyfriend. So the first few drawings are made in London.
I thought it was a really cool city, beautiful architecture, friendly people, funny food and lots and lots to see.

This left drawing was just a woman on the train en the right drawing is of my niece Arle, she is around six hours old when I made this. It's my sisters daughter and she is really tiny and cute.

Random people on the train and such.

This year I went on vacation with my best friend and took my first plane-flight! It didn't scare me or something and it was only an hour and a half-flight, haha. We first went to Montpellier in France for seven days and then another six days to Paris. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of cool stuff which I will maybe add later.

Here are some monkey studies I did for an assignment at school, gotta love them monkeys!

Random people I met or didn't meet.

I will add sketches more regularly, so that I can explain them a bit more, this was just a whole pile at once, so you'll see more from me!
Thanks for looking at my stuff and don't be shy to leave a comment.

Toodles!!
