Admitted at ArtEZ Academy of Arts!! (and kabk as well)

Hi there everybody!

It's been a while, again, I'm sorry! I've been busy figuring out what to do.
In the meantime I had my admission at the academy in The Hague (where I studied this last year), had to do it twice, because they weren't overwhelmed the first time. After the the first try, I decided to do admission at other academies as well. I applied for Utrecht and Zwolle. After a few weeks, I found out that the academy in The Hague admitted me (I had to call them myself, because they forgot about me, but anyway). Even though I didn't really want to go there anymore, I was pleased that they thought I was good enough. I actually decided that I really wanted to go to Zwolle, for the study illustration design.

After some weeks of working really hard on the assignments for the admission in Zwolle (ArtEZ academy), the day arrived, admission day.. Once we got there, I had to make some drawings and present my work to a jury. Later that day another jury came to judge my work, but this time without my presentation. So I decided to make a presentation that wouldn't need my presence. The other applicants just dropped their work on a big pile, I organized it more by hanging the important works on the wall, and showing my sketchbooks. When the second jury was done, I went to pack my work to go home. At this moment, one of the teachers came in to whisper 'you are admitted!', but I had to keep my mouth shut. I was so happy! Me and Tom raced outside to do a little victory dance.

So now, I still have the admission in Utrecht, and if I'll get admitted there as well, I can choose. But actually is Zwolle the one I want to attend.

Here is one of the assignments I did for the admission in Zwolle. The assignment was: make a book of paintings, 5-10 pages, size 50x35 cm. The book has to have a story and you're free to choose what materials to use.

First I wrote my story, about doing admission for the first time in The Hague and was sent to the preparatory-year. At first everything went well, then I started disliking the assignments, the way the teachers behaved, the work they wanted me to make and that they wouldn't respect my point of view. Still, I persevered, even though I wasn't enjoying it that much anymore. Then there was the second admission, for Fine Arts, which I did with a lot of doubt. I had to re-do it, with even more doubt, but at this time, I had made my plans to try Zwolle for the study Illustration design. I got admitted at the kabk in The Hague, but decided to leave that academy behind, and try a new adventure at ArtEz in Zwolle.

I re-wrote the story and came up with this one, I think the actual story still shines through.

Enjoy and be prepared for more posts!!

  1. Hey Else, I see you wrote a very interesting article here. I found it via Google. I am currently planning on continuing my studies in the Netherlands for interior design (Masters degree). I know you're in the fine art/ illustration design, but I wish you could give me some insights about the interior design program in KABK or ArtEZ, or if there are any other universities with good interior design master programs in the Netherlands that you could recommend me. I hope I'm not asking you too much, lol! Anyway, thank you :)

    1. Hi there Yasmin!
      Sorry for the late response.
How nice that you have found me through google!
Of course I can help you. A good friend of mine studied Interior Design at ArtEZ, and has now transfered to the KABK.
What would you like to know, so I can ask her :)
      Talk to you soon!

      Cheers Else.

  2. Sorry for the late reply Else. I'd like to ask whether they both offer an international program, I mean giving lectures in English etc? and what is the difference between the KABK and ArtEZ's interior design? which is better? :D
